Becca Hansen: Editor-in-Chief, News Editor
Becca Hansen is a senior this year at Thomas Jefferson High School. She is greatly looking forward to taking on the role of being the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief and improving her writing skills. She is very excited to collaborate with the new staff members to create a fantastic online newspaper. Becca also enjoys playing tennis for TJ, being a National Honor Society Officer, and learning new things from Mr. Thomas in AP biology.

Abby Montgomery: Community Editor
Abby Montgomery is a senior at TJ and this is her second year on the Journal Staff. She enjoys the finer things in life, such as good music and toffee. Abby is determined to go to college after this year and do big things, and she mean BIG things. Her main goals in life are to sail the Pacific and to capture and tame as many wild horses as she can. Let the good times roll.

Dani Ruzycki: Co-People Editor
Dani Ruzycki is now a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School. She can’t wait for this year and being on the newspaper staff for the second time. She became the editor for the people section of the newspaper and she hopes to accomplish many more things this year. Outside of school, Dani likes to hang out with her friends and her family and just enjoy and make many memories in her last year in high school!

Jacki Ruzycki: Co-People Editor
Senior Jacki Ruzycki is the new People Editor for the TJ Journal. This is her second year on the staff and she is very excited for the rest of her senior year. She hopes to attend Community College in Denver to get a degree in radiology and get her other credits at UCD. On her weekends she enjoys hanging out with friends, cuddling with her dog Lexi, watching scary movies, and baking all kinds of goodies!

Matthew Fabian: Sports Editor
Matthew has always loved sports. Before going to school each morning he watches SportsCenter to get all the latest updates. Matthew loves to write for the TJ Journal because of his passion for the Spartan spirit he has had since freshman year. Matthew hopes to make the sports section of the Journal better by having the sports writers have more features about the best athletes at Thomas Jefferson. Matthew wants to make true Spartan fans.

Cody Anderson: Living & Arts Editor
Cody Anderson is known to be a little bit “out there” with a know-it-all attitude and an almost endless knowledge of just about everything. That is, if you can find him alive and awake. With his love of movies, he joined the Journal to write reviews of the newest movies without mercy. As luck should have it, he managed to score the job of Living and Arts Editor in his first year on the paper.

Mateo Rocha: Adventure Sports Editor
Mateo Rocha is a unique individual. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Mateo takes pride in his culture, but also loves his home town of Denver, CO. Animals and food excite Mateo, as well as skateboarding and art. As a current reporter for the TJ Journal, Mateo aspires to follow a career in journalism. With plans to travel to exotic places in the world, such as the Himalayas and the Kilimanjaro, Mateo has some great adventures to fulfill.

Ed Gloor: Photo Editor
Ed Gloor is the current Photo Editor for the Thomas Jefferson Journal. He enjoys pop punk bands like The Wonder Years, Set Your Goals, and Title Fight. This year he plans to dive into the endeavor of learning to play the ukulele, learning such songs as Hey Thanks by The Wonder Years. Ed has three dogs, one of which he got this year, named Jake, after the dog from Adventure Time, his absolute favorite cartoon.

Kiera Classen: Co-Photo Editor
Kiera Classen is the Co-Photo Editor and a reporter for the TJ Journal. She is a swim-aholic with a huge passion for photography. She has been a swimmer for fourteen years and a photographer for four. Kiera believes that this year in newspaper will be interesting; she has never been a reporter before. She is very opinionated and active. Kiera hopes to someday own her own business that has to do with photography and sports. The End.

Aviva Getschel: Copy Editor
Aviva Getschel: actress, budding scientist, gardener and (sometimes) gourmet chef, is a first-year reporter and copy editor for the Thomas Jefferson Journal as a junior at the autonym’s High School. Born in Denver, she aspires to live in Manhattan, NYC. Her articles on new, inspiring recipes she tries weekly are a fresh offering from an original perspective in the Living and Arts section. She enjoys reading, making jewelry, playing computer games, and chatting with friends.

Mallory Baker: Copy Editor
Mallory Baker is a brilliant senior at TJ who avidly enjoyed her summer job as a Lifeguard, acquiring a prime tan, pivotal for social outings. On top of her heavy social calendar she partakes in AP Literature, AP Calculus, AP Physics, and Newspaper. She is also a peak performer on the Varsity Volleyball, Swimming, and Track. She seems to be the total package; little evidence could be held against that. She is all around awesome.

Halen Alemseged: Reporter
Halen Alemseged was born and raised in Denver, CO.  She loves writing and being a part of the TJ Journal Staff. Growing up Halen has always enjoyed playing basketball. She is on the basketball team here at TJ. Halen also loves music; she listens to music about four hours everyday. She enjoys rap and hip hop. Her dream is to be a professional team’s athletic trainer. Also she is looking forward to going to college in California.

Michael Harrison: Reporter
For a 16 year old boy, Michael Harrison would say that his life isn’t very fulfilled as of yet. He hopes to write for a magazine, and eventually craft novels when he’s an adult, and he will continue to strive for this goal. Journalism last year, and Newspaper this year will help him greatly in his quest for a lifelong career in writing. Harrison hopes that when he gets out of college he will get to write about games.

Sadye Hazan is a Junior at TJ. This is her first year as a writer on the TJ Journal. She is a part of TJ’s NHS program and has played soccer and softball for TJ for all three years. Rachel Uyemura: Reporter
Rachel Uyemura was born and raised here in Denver, Colorado. Uyemura has pretty much grown up here at TJ, thanks to her brother who graduated in 2007. She is a junior and has been playing sports here whole life, which consists of softball, swimming, and soccer. Rachel wants to study either marine biology or be a journalist; kind of crazy considering this is newspaper! Looks like Uyemura is on the right path!

Matt Spampinato has been the Newspaper Advisor at TJ since 1990. His educational and life philosophy is that man should fill every moment with meaningful, crafty, playful, innovative, and artistic creation. “We learn by doing, building, toiling, failing and succeeding. So roll up your sleeves and get to work,” says Spamp.
