Offensive struggles for Spartans continue.
by Keenan Moore

The Lady Spartans played yet another tough league opponent in the South Rebels yesterday and they were not able to pull out a win, losing 2-0.
The girls seemed to be ready to play, as the Spartans were able to control the ball inside the Rebel zone for the majority of the first half.  However, it seemed like no matter what the Spartans would do, the Rebels always had some kind of counter for it.  There were many shots on goal that the South keeper would find a way to save.  The Spartans also had a bad break when a shot hit the post on an empty net and reflected out of bounds killing a perfectly good scoring chance that the Spartans had towards the end of the first half.  The first half ended with the Rebels stealing a pass and going all the way across the field to score the first goal of the game.
The second half had the Spartans in a familiar spot, needing to mount a comback.  Yet again the Spartans started out strong and controlled the ball inside the Rebel zone.  However, there were fewer shots in the second half as the Rebels were able to clear the ball out of their zone quite effectively.  As the final minutes of the game were ticking away, the Rebels put one more goal up against the Spartans and put the game away.
The Lady Spartans have been shutout in their last two games and they have been outscored by a 5-0 margin.  The Spartans still have two games in which they can turn their season on a positive note. Their next game is against Lincoln this Thursday at Lincoln at 4:15.

Lady Spartans rebound strongly against West.

By Keenan Moore

normal_mal2.jpgThe Lady Spartans played their second game at All City Field last Tuesday night, and they were able to pull out a win beating the West Cowboys 4-0.
The girls were looking to rebound strongly from their loss to the powerful league opponent Kennedy.  The Lady Spartans did just this as they came right out of the gate firing, getting their first goal quickly after the start of the game.  Freshman midfielder Casey Elderman seemed to open up the floodgates for the Spartans as they struck two more times before halftime.  Goals from junior midfielder Robin Emerson and sophomore Stephanie Warren put the Spartans up 3-0 at the end of the first half.
For the girls to be able to put the Cowboys away in the second half, the defense would have to stay strong and keep the Cowboys out of their zone.  They had done a good job of this in the first half, but there was another half for the Spartans to show their worth.  They did just this and then some as the vast majority of the second half was spent in the Cowboy side of the field.  Read more

Defensive Troubles For Spartans
by Keenan Moore

The girls played another tough league opponent in the Kennedy Commanders and were not able to pull out a win as they lost 2-0.
The Spartans looked to do the things that had brought them their win against North.  This would mean that their defense would have to be solid and freshman goalie Rachael Newman would have to have another good game.  However it would seem that the intensity that the Spartans brought to their game against North just didn’t seem to show up this time.
As the game started, there were a few early showings of the same intensity; however, that would not last as the majority of the first half was played in the Spartan zone.  The Commanders were finally able to strike as they scored their fist goal just after the halfway mark in the first half.  The Spartans only allowed this one goal in the first half and were only down by 1-0 at the end of the first half.  The Spartans had come back from bigger deficits than this in the past, so spirits seemed to be up as the second half commenced.
The girls started the second half strong as they controlled the ball deep inside the Commander zone.  There were a lot of chances, but it seemed like the Spartans could never capitalize.  At one time, there were three shots in a row that the Spartans had, but all of them were blocked by the Commander goalie.  This seemed to be the overall story for the Spartans as they had many opportunities blocked by the Commanders. Towards the end of the game, the Commanders were able to slip in one more goal to put the Spartans away.
The Spartans look to make a strong rebound at there next game, when play Montbello at Montbello this Thursday at 4:15.

Spartans surge with offensive power.

1asoccer.jpgThe Lady Spartans played their first game since spring break on Thursday night and were able to pull out a win against North, 5-1.
There was some worry that the long break might get to the Spartans, but those thoughts were quickly put to rest as the ladies scored 2 goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. The defense was strong all around and made the game easier for the offense as they controlled the ball inside the Viking zone for the majority of the game. Towards the end of the first half, junior midfielder Robin Emerson made her second goal of the game and put the Spartans up 3-0 at the half.
The second half proved to be just as successful for the girls, as they were able to strike two more times. Read more

Early season continues for the Spartans.

By Keenan Moore

1asoccer.jpgThe Lady Spartans played their first game last night at All City Field and they were not able to pull out a win as they lost to Northglenn 5-0.
The girls looked to make a strong rebound after their devastating defeat at the hands of Rocky Mountain last Saturday.  The same intensity was there, but it just seemed like the Spartans couldn’t put anything together.  The game started out just like the game against Rocky Mountain, with TJ controlling the ball inside the Northglenn zone.  However, this surge in offense was short-lived, as eventually the tide began to turn and the Spartans were on the defensive.  Read more
