Boys' soccer  takes a 3-0 loss to the Patriots.

By Scott Bruskin

Despite a hard fought game, the boy’s soccer team was unable to come out with a win against a tough George Washington Patriot team, losing 3-0 on Tuesday, October 16th. The boys had a tough time getting their offense going, being shut out for the 7th time this year. “We had many opportunities, we just couldn't convert on any of them,” said defenseman Keenan Moore. “It seemed as if we were not mentally focused.”

The boys have been eliminated from playoff contention, as they can finish no better than sixth in the Denver Prep League standings. They currently have a record of 4-10 with a 3-4 record in league play. It appears that South and Lincoln will be representing DPS in the playoffs.

TJ, however, can still finish at 4-4 in league play with a win Thursday when they host the Vikings of North. It will be TJ’s last home game and the final game for TJ seniors  Read more

Boys Soccer gets out-played by the Angels.

By Scott Bruskin

The boys' varsity soccer team put up a valiant effort but was unable to come out with the win, losing to the Angels of East High School by a score of 10-0 on Thursday, October 4. TJ went up against a tough East squad and were unable to get any offensive production. The Spartans defense also struggled, trying to stop the Angels attack. The defensive side of the field had a rough night, allowing 10 of East’s 22 shots into the back of the net.  Zach Grossnickle of East scored a hat trick against the Spartans while Zach Bolden chipped in with 5 assists, leading the Angels.

With this loss, TJ falls to a record of 1-9 and a conference record of 0-3. The Spartans are now in last place in the Denver Prep League and chances of making the playoffs look bleaker everyday, as the Spartans will be forced to climb out of a deep hole.  Read more

The tough season continues for TJ boys' Soccer.

By Scott Bruskin

spartains_web.gifThe TJ soccer team fell to the South Rebels on Semptember 25 at All City Stadium by the score of 7-0. TJ struggled during the game on both offense and defense. “We had some opportunities, we just could not take advantage of them,” defender Keenan Moore said. “I think we are now beginning to play as a team though.”

TJ was shut out for the fourth time this year and the second straight game. South came out of the box firing and kept it up throughout the whole game. The Spartans were never really able to catch their breath and settle into the game.

With this loss the Spartans new record is 1-8 with a conference record of 0-2. TJ looks to rebound and gets some points on the board Thursday, September 27, when they host the Montbello Warriors at 4:15. The Spartans will be looking to put a stop to their 6 game skid. Hopefully, TJ can come together and find a way to pull it off against a tough Warrior team.

TJ boys' soccer gets their first win of the season.

by Scott Bruskin

soccer_web.gif    TJ boys' soccer upset the Olympians from class 5A Gateway in a 4-2 thriller onThursday, September 6. TJ was out for revenge after losing to Ridgeview Academy in disappointing fashion their last game and, unfortunately for Gateway, they were what stood between the Spartans and a victory.
TJ was energized and defeated the Olympians by a final score of 4-2. The goal scorers included Jorge Jacal, who has scored one goal in each of the past 2 games, Wesley Cordes who also has scored in each of the last 2 games, Adam Rose and Raul Sanchez. Jacal and Keenan Moore also contributed by having assists of their own.
However, without the sensational goal keeping of first-year starter Keith Warren, the Spartans offensive production would have been all for naught. Warren, who was making his first start as keeper after being moved from attacker, was sensational, allowing only two goals on 11 shots. With a much better saves-to-goal ratio than in the previous games, Warren gave Read more

TJ boys soccer loses a hard fought game to Ridgeview Academy.

by Scott Bruskin

The varsity boys' soccer team was faced with an early deficit right out of the gate on Tuesday when Ridgeview scored the first goal only a few minutes into the game.
TJ, however, answered strongly when Jorge Jacal Tovar bounced a shot off the crossbar and into the goal. That was all of the scoring in the first half, and TJ ended up out-shooting Ridgeview 8 to 5.
Ridgeview opened the second half strongly, scoring on their next two shot opportunities. The TJ boys became rejuvenated and showed new life, scoring on the next three straight shots.  One of TJ's five goals was scored by senior attacker and captain Thomas Mahoney, who put the ball in the back of the net with a beautiful header.  Wesley Cordes and Edgar Llamas also contributed to the three consecutive goals. TJ had taken the lead and was ready to walk away with the victory until Ridgeview kicked it up a notch and scored the next two goals to take the lead by one with the score 5-4. Read more
