TJ Gymnastics falls to Ponderosa and East but defeats Kennedy.
TJ Spartan gymnastics team had three meets during the last few weeks against Ponderosa High School, East High School, and Kennedy High School.
Gymnastics had a great first meet against Ponderosa. “As a team, we’ve improved a lot since our first practice; a lot of the girls are getting more comfortable as a team than individuals.” said Senior Gymnast, Ashley Nordloh. The team they were competing with had a final score of 114, beating our Spartan gymnasts by just eight points. Gabby Harrison performed very well, receiving a score of 7.3-overall, a very nice score average form the three categories the judges look at.
The second meet was against the East Angels. Our Spartans had a final score of 112, but East won with a score of 115, beating our girls by a mere three points. “Our team did really well; it was personally not my best meet due to my ankle sprain that I got at the last meet, but we will for sure beat East next time. We are improving as a team,” said Sophomore Brianne Gutierrez.
It was the third meet of the season that the girls hoped to win, and Kennedy High School was in their sights. “The girls were nervous going into the meet hoping to win their first meet of the season,” said Freshmen Gymnast Abby Hoffman. The anxiousness of the meet paid off, and the gymnasts beat the Commanders by 27.48 points. TJ had a final team score of 112.95, and the commanders had a final score of 85.47. All of our Lady Spartans got first in the three categories that the judges rule on.
On floor, Harrison got the highest score of 6.95. On bars, Nordloh got the highest with a final score of 6.8. And lastly, on beam Gutierrez received a very impressive score of 6.69. “We all supported each other and complimented each other on how well we were doing. Even if it wasn’t our best score on the individual categories, we still hyped each other up, and made each other feel great about ourselves. This I believe helped us a lot with our win versus Kennedy,” explained Hoffman. Their next meet is on October 3 against the Rebels at South, so be there to support our gymnasts!
