Girls’ Soccer Ousted

The Girls’ Soccer team ends its season with a win against Hinkley, a loss to South, and a loss in its playoff game.
On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, the girls’ soccer team defeated Hinkley in its last non-league game. Juniors Rachel Uyemura and Braelah McGinnis and Freshman Marinah McGinnis scored the three goals TJ had in the game. They only let one goal in during the second half, earning the victory with a score of 3-1.
On Friday, May 4th, the girls’ soccer team played its last league game of the season against South High School.
The game against South was a big match for the girls. South is a key rival to TJ, and the girls stepped on the field ready to play. In the first half, Senior Abby Montgomery scored the first goal of the game with an assist by Junior Braelah McGinnis. They went into halftime with the one goal lead, but lost that lead in the second half. South was able to score two goals in the second half, finalizing the game with a score of 2-1.
The next week, the girls traveled to the Don Breese Stadium in Monument, Colorado to face the Palmer Ridge Bears in their first playoff game of the season. The Bears were tough to defeat for the Spartans, considering their 15 wins and only one loss this season. “Everyone worked hard and gave it 110%,” said Senior Belen Gomez. “We all left everything on the field.” Palmer Ridge scored a total of ten goals throughout the game, and shut out TJ, not allowing them to score once. “Even though we lost, we came off the field with our heads held high,” explained Gomez.
Because of their loss in the game against Palmer Ridge, the girls are finished with their 2011-2012 soccer season with seven wins and eight losses. Senior Belen Gomez was satisfied with her last year as a Spartan soccer player. “It was an amazing season. I enjoyed every minute and I’m going to miss everyone. I wish them the best next season,” said Gomez.
