Costco Nation

"…one place that will be here until the sun explodes and the earth is sucked into a black hole will be Costco."

The other day I was wandering through the massive warehouse of a building that is Costco, up and down the many aisles, trying to find the syrup in the vast wilderness of a store. However, the spinning rotisserie chickens distracted me, and as I was staring at them I started thinking a lot about the future.
I am going to be in college next year, and that’s a pretty big step from high school. So, I can’t help but find myself wondering what’s going to happen with my life? Will I be successful? What does my future hold for me? With these questions I also start to think about my friends. What will happen to them? Will we stay close, or grow apart? Will they be successful? As all these thoughts are racing through my mind I often come to one final question that is kind of irrelevant to what I was thinking of in the first place. That question is: What will happen to mankind in the future? What do humans have in store for them 500 years from now? 50 years from now? Or even 10 years from now? I find myself baffled over this question, and spend valuable homework time in its contemplation. However, I find it to be a very valid and important question to consider. What does the future have in store for us?
When I think about it, this question it is both mesmerizing and horrific at the same time. What’s going to be around in the future? Maybe we’ll still be addicted to caffeine and, instead of only two Starbucks on the same block, there will be four. Or maybe we’ll still enjoy the occasional super- sized meal from that creepy clown guy at McDonalds. I don’t know about you, but I have made quite a few predictions about what will still be around and what won’t.
For example, one place that will be here until the sun explodes and the earth is sucked into a black hole will be Costco.
Costco will be around forever, because who doesn’t like buying food in massive quantities?
You know, why buy a steak if you can have the whole cow? I also have this other theory that one day Costco will span over 10 square miles, and will incorporate not only food, clothes, and electronics but also have a school, restaurants, maybe houses and apartments. People can get brain surgery, adopt a child, earn a PHD there; you name it they’ll have it. Essentially, Costco will become its own community, and eventually it will become its own nation and secede from the United States as its own country.
As a country, Costco will have to set up its own form of government. It will be based on the theory that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the ability to buy food in massive quantities. It will be a complete utopian society. There will be no war, there will be no violence, because who could possibly have anger issues when you live in Costco? We will have everything we need to survive right there in front of us. When the apocalypse comes everything will be in shambles, all of humanity will be extinguished, the world will be at its end, but the people in Costco will still be alive and kicking well into the next millennium.
Well…back to my first point: what does my future hold for me? Will I live in Costco? Because I know my mother will always have a membership, and will probably pass it down to me in her will. With regards to my friends, if I keep in touch with them I guess there will have to be a lot of texting and instant messaging going on since I couldn’t really see them. The point is that things are going to be different in the future. I will meet new people, try new things, and maybe I also will change. The only thing we can do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride, and shop. Life will take care of itself.
