abilly.jpg    The South Rebels could not handle TJ's intensity, as the Spartans added their 13th win of the season by a final score of 72-59 on Friday night.
From the very beginning, South seemed to have momentum on their side. They scored an impressive 17 points in the first quarter to TJ's 11, putting them at a six point lead early on. Everything changed in the second quarter when TJ's defense tightened down on South's offense and halted the Rebels' scoring to just five points. With 16 points of their own, TJ headed to the locker room at halftime with a five point lead, 27-22. As the second half kicked off, TJ was able to build on its offensive momentum and scored 22 points to South's 15 in the third quarter. In the fourth, the teams began to even out with TJ and South scoring 23 and 22 points respectively. When the buzzer brought the intense match to a close, the Spartans were clearly on top, leading by 13 points, with a final score of 72-59.
An increased level of intensity is the best way to define the TJ team during the game. The second quarter was the start of it, as TJ's defense held South to only five points, and from then on TJ built on their momentum. This boost in intensity will be important for TJ in the post season, and Sophomore Billy Sprague is hopeful that they will be able to continue with it. "Our intensity was a lot higher and I think that will be how we play the rest of our games," he explained. Sprague scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, nine of which were on the defensive side of the court. Ray Riley led the scoring for both teams with 18 points and Krubiel Workie put up an impressive 12 points. TJ's next game is at home against Montbello at 5:30 on Tuesday , February 19th, and should be a good game if TJ can keep up their energy.
