Boys’ Basketball beats Rock Canyon in a close game.

By Phillip Karlberg

The Spartans’ basketball squad managed a solid win against Rock Canyon on Friday, finishing the game with a final score of 65-57.
The first half was the cornerstone supporting the TJ victory.  In the first quarter, they racked up 21 points to Rock Canyon’s 11.  The second half also boosted the Spartans lead, and by the end of the half TJ was ahead by 15 points.
In the second half Rock Canyon showed a much different side to their game.  The Jaguars’ defense heated up and kept the Spartan offense down to only 27 points in the second half, more than 10 short of what they made in the first half.  Their offense also improved and they were able to pull off 34 points in the latter half of the game.  Despite their efforts at the end of the game, Rock Canyon couldn’t quite catch the Spartans’ lead and the game ended 65-57 TJ.
Ray Riley was the top scorer of the night, totaling 16 points.  Krubiel Workie and Chris Carter followed with 11 and 10 points, respectivly.  With a record of 9-3, The Spartan boys have really shown promise for the playoffs.  TJ’s next game is at Chatfield on January 11th at 7 p.m.
