TJ stuck to their solid running game led by Ryan Allen and the state’s top rusher Devon Fitzgerald to get consistent yards and first downs. Fitzgerald had another great performance with 114 yards on 21 carries, and Allen finished with 53 yards on 9 rushes.  Allen ran in a touchdown from eight yards out just four minutes into the game for TJ’s first score.  Later in the second quarter, a 52 yard interception return by cornerback Cooper Hearne put the Spartans up 14-0.  Although the running game was the main part of the TJ offense, a couple of big passing plays from quarterback Michael Mankoff to receiver Billy Sprague kept the scoring alive.  Sprague finished the game with two receptions for 52 yards, with one 29 yard touchdown catch.

Montbello’s only score came in the first half on a one yard run by tailback Ryan Long.  TJ expected this to be their toughest league game of the year against their long-time rivals from Montbello, but they came out hot and never cooled down. They look to continue their perfect season next Friday against Thornton at Five Star Stadium.
