TJ boys soccer loses a hard fought game to Ridgeview Academy.

by Scott Bruskin

The varsity boys' soccer team was faced with an early deficit right out of the gate on Tuesday when Ridgeview scored the first goal only a few minutes into the game.
TJ, however, answered strongly when Jorge Jacal Tovar bounced a shot off the crossbar and into the goal. That was all of the scoring in the first half, and TJ ended up out-shooting Ridgeview 8 to 5.
Ridgeview opened the second half strongly, scoring on their next two shot opportunities. The TJ boys became rejuvenated and showed new life, scoring on the next three straight shots.  One of TJ's five goals was scored by senior attacker and captain Thomas Mahoney, who put the ball in the back of the net with a beautiful header.  Wesley Cordes and Edgar Llamas also contributed to the three consecutive goals. TJ had taken the lead and was ready to walk away with the victory until Ridgeview kicked it up a notch and scored the next two goals to take the lead by one with the score 5-4.
Towards the end of the game, TJ started putting pressure on the Ridgeview defensemen, but were unable to tie the game. They once again out shot Ridgeview by 15-8 in the second half, but suffered when they were unable to execute on any one of their 3 corner kicks in the second half.
The Spartans look to bounce back Thursday, September 6th when they take on the Olympians of Gateway at TJ at 3:30. The Spartans come into the game with a record of 0-2.
