Patriots Sweep TJ Boys' Tennis
September 6, 2007
The TJ tennis team falls to George Washington.
The boys' tennis team took on the George Washington Patriots on Tuesday, and were not able to pull out a win as the Patriots swept them. “We have a team with a lot of talent this year, but GW brought their A-game to the court,” stated Junior and #2 Singles Robert Lampert.
The competition has always been tough between these two teams, but in the past few years the Patriots have gotten the better of the Spartans. The tennis team has taken this in stride and they will be trying to regain their momentum this Thursday, September 6th against North.
“This year’s team has a lot of potential, we just need to improve on a few small things,” said fellow Junior and #1 Doubles P.J. Sleichter. Despite the outcome of this match, there are still moments that show the potential the team has this year. Led by #1 Singles, Justin Blackburn, the team’s goal is to qualify for the State Championships. This is no easy feat though, for the teams that they will have to face are loaded with talent. To qualify for the State Championship, the tennis boys would have to either finish first or second in the regional competition. This means that they would eventually have to play George Washington again. However, this idea doesn’t really seem to dampen the team’s spirit.
“We aren’t really worried about the State Championship or even the regional competition right now; we are just focused on bringing 100% to every game,” said Junior and #2 Doubles Andrew Briss. With the season just underway, the team seems more worried about the idea of winning their upcoming match against North, rather than the regional competition. So with the much of the season to go, the boys' tennis team plays on in hopes of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel: the State Championship.
